Navajo Nation Primaries results show new faces for Presidency as well as two of three Utah seats

The 2026 Navajo Nation primary election was held on July 21.
Among the races include Navajo Nation Council and Navajo Nation President.
Unofficial results are in including for council delegate seats representing Utah Navajo include the seat to represent Teecnospos, Aneth, Red Mesa, Tó Łikan, Rockpoint, & Mexican Water.
The top two vote earners advancing to the November general election are Manuel Morgan of Aneth and Greg H. Bigman of Teecnospos. Morgan earned 804 votes for 28.45-percent with Bigman earning 679 for 24.03-percent
Charlain Tso earned 16-percent of the vote, Patterson Yazzie earned 11-percent, Curtis Yanito 10-percent and Al James Whitehorse at 8-percent.
Navajo Utahns are also represented on the council by a delegate covering Tsah Bii Kin, Naa Tsis' Áán, Oljato Chapters and the Shonto Community Governance. Current Delegate Herman Daniels Jr. of Oljato is not seeking reelection. The two advancing to the general election are Roland Smallcanyon and Marsha Greyes. Smallcanyon earned 746 votes, and Greyeyes earned 590 votes. Finishing in third was Felix Fuller with 326 votes.
Navajo Utahns are also represented in the by the delegate representing Chilchinbeto, Dennehotso and Kayenta.
Incumbent Shaandiin Parrish of Kayenta was the top vote earner with 668 votes for 36-percent of the vote and will face Eugene Badonie of Chilchinbeto who earned 533 votes and 28-percent of the vote. Jarvis Williams earned 25-percent of the vote while Joan Gray earned 10-percent of the vote.
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren will not advance to the November general election as he finished third in voting.
Justin Jones from the Rock Point chapter was the top vote earner for the Navajo Nation Presidential Primary with 15,039 votes to capture 31-percent of the vote.
Navajo Nation Speaker of the House Crystalyne Curley was the next highest vote earner with 8,546 votes for 17-percent of the vote. Curley is from the Tselani/Cottonwood area.
Nygren, who hails from the Red Mesa chapter earned 7,410 votes to finish in third.
