Miss Monument Valley High School Crowned

Freshman Sloane Sheppard was named Miss Monument Valley High School at the school’s annual pageant on Saturday, March 26.
First runner-up was awarded to senior Chalyishia Tsosie, while second runner-up goes to sophomore Dawnae Yazzie, and Miss Congeniality to sophomore Naima Goodman.
Contestants were judged in a variety of categories as they demonstrated talents and abilities as well as answered interview questions in English and Navajo and wore formal and traditional clothing as part of the event.
The event was MC’d by ‘Mr. Navajo’ Zachariah George and included a speech from 2021-2022 Miss Navajo Nation Niagara Rockbridge.
The event was judged by Miss Navajo as well as other royalty from outside the community to ensure no favoritism.
Plenty of other royalty attended the event including Miss Tse'Bii'Nidzisgai Elementary and Miss TES runner-up, and Miss Western Navajo Jocelyn Wero. Also former Miss Monument Valley Felicia Holiday, former Miss Western Navajo-Ann Marie Crank and Rainy Sky, as well as former Miss Navajo Nation Shaandiin Parrish.
Event Organizer Lahoma Cly thanked Larry Holiday and Charlotte Salt for their help in organizing the event.
Cly was pleased with the event and especially the involvement from contestants' parents.
She says communication and teamwork is needed to do what we can to help out our kids.
The event had limited attendance due to Navajo Nation covid-19 restrictions.
