Local voted to Empire Electric Board

Robert Barry was elected to represent District Two on the Empire Electric Board of Directors at the annual meeting of the electric cooperative on June 20. It is the first time a local resident has served on the board in more than a decade.
Barry was elected with 51 percent of the votes. He received 1,115 votes to defeat Carolyn Dunmire by 63 votes. She received 1,052.
Barry will represent District Two, which includes the Utah portions of the Empire Electric service area, in addition to the Dove Creek area.
Barry was raised on the Barry Farm in Eastland and has spent his life in San Juan County. He has been involved in Soil Conservation efforts for more than 30 years, including leadership roles in local, state, and national organizations.
In other races, two incumbents were re-elected to the board, including Kent Lindsay and David Sitton.
Empire Electric is an electric services coop that provides electrical service to Monticello and areas east of Monticello, in addition to southwest Colorado.
