Monticello to honor past and future at Pioneer Day celebration

Monticello will celebrate the past and the future for the annual Pioneer Day celebration, which will culminate with events on July 25 and 26. The Monticello Chamber of Commerce and the City of Monticello sponsor the annual celebration, with Michael Martin and Karen Whipple helping to coordinate the efforts of a number of volunteers.

The celebration will have a theme of “Back to the Future Four,” with Monticello’s Big Four tractor as the star of the show. The historic tractor is expected to be up and running for the annual Pioneer Day parade and will preside over two days of tractor pull activities.

Volunteers led by Winn Westcott and the folks at Young’s Machine are hard at work completing the final details of the restoration work.

A host of traditional activities are scheduled, including the Blue Mountain Invitational Fast Pitch Softball Tournament on July 25 and 26, the Lions Club breakfast on July 26 at the LDS Stake Center Pavilion, Pioneer Day parade at 11 a.m., carnival and children’s games in the park, and a fireworks spectacular in the evening.

Additional activities include “Olympic Games” near the Monticello High School football field and an Air Band competition on Saturday evening.
