Running for: Blanding City Council, 4 year term

I have been asked by many why I would want to be a City Councilman at this point in my life. I believe that this is a perfect time. I am retired and therefore have an abundance of time to give to the job.

The 20 plus years that I worked for the City, has given me a very extensive knowledge of the workings of city government. The 14 years as the Chief of Police has given me the chance to work with budgets. We never went over our budget while I was the Chief. Being a city employee has given me a very large respect for the other city employees. I believe that the employees are the biggest assets the city has. As a councilman, I would rely on their knowledge and experience.

I have lived in Blanding all of my life and have a very strong desire to serve the community. We are very lucky to live in this special place and need to do everything that we can to preserve our way of life. This doesn’t mean that I am against growth. I just think that we need to be able to afford the things that we do.

I strongly believe that a city government is in place to serve the people. I would strive to be very open to what the citizens want and expect from the city. Let me share a quote from the Declaration of Independence. “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

I would hope that you will let me be your City Councilman.
