County photos and documents to be available online in near future

Have you ever wished you had a photo of great grandma Lucy with her trophy deer, or Jim Mike at Rainbow Bridge, or Grandpa’s early business?

In the future such wishes will become a reality as the San Juan County Historical Preservation Commission determined in their recent meeting to merge all archived county photos and documents and make them available to the public via the Internet.

In order to accomplish this task, they will combine two large collections, moving the files currently stored in the San Juan County Courthouse building to the Commission’s main office, which also contains thousands of files.

By merging both collections into one program, the next step will be to create a website where the general public can secure copies.

Part of the collection is already online at https://sanjuan.pastperfectonline.com/ and the entire collection will be available in the future.

Anyone interested in assisting with the project can email Toni Turk, President of the San Juan County Historical Preservation Commission at trturk46@gmail.com.
