Community-wide potlucks July 5

It’s a birthday party and everyone is invited!
Be a part of the fun as friends and neighbors in cities, towns, villages, and neighborhoods all across America celebrate her birthday and rejoice in 250 years of freedom at “America’s Potluck” on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The Monticello Potluck starts at 1 pm Sunday at the ballpark at 301 West Center Street. Hot dogs, water, plates, and utensils will be provided. Bring your favorite side dish, salad, dessert, or any other dish you’d like to share. You will also want to bring your own blankets and chairs.
Monticello’s Potluck Committee includes Laurie Schafer, Michelle Baird, Stephanie Cecil, Hannah Plemons, Linda Lewis, and Sarah Goodman. A big thank you to all of you for your fine work in putting together this chance to spend time together with friends and neighbors.
The Blanding Potluck dinner will run from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday at Centennial Park.
Bring your favorite dish to share —salads, soups, casseroles, main dishes, rolls, chips, cookies, cakes, drinks or desserts, anything goes at a potluck!
Bring your own dishes and drinks, and your own chairs and blankets and stay to visit as long as you like. The Blanding Potluck is hosted by San Juan County Farm Bureau. Call Patti Lyman at 435-650-3078 if you have any questions.
A potluck is the perfect chance to experience “the good old days” when folks took time to visit and enjoy one another’s company while sharing great food with each other.
America’s Potluck “is a nonpartisan initiative designed to bring people together across differences at a time when many Americans feel divided or isolated,” and includes “20,000 cities, towns, and villages, 100 faiths, state commissions representing 342 million Americans, and 115,000 women leaders.”
The goal: to celebrate America 250 and to give communities a chance to slow down, connect, spend time together, and feel more like family. “Studies from The Big Lunch and Community Plate indicate potlucks are a powerful tool to connect, bringing together people with different views.”
Additionally, “America’s Potluck” is having great fun exploring the “unique State recipes that represent regional flavors and culinary tastes from every part of our nation.”
America 250 Utah.gov says, “From the ancient recipes of Utah’s native peoples, to pioneer dishes carried across the plains, to the vibrant traditions brought here from every corner of the world—the tables of Utah represent the richness of our American stories and experiences.”
The favorite recipe for San Juan County Utah could very easily be Navajo Tacos—and The Official State Recipe for Utah according to America’s Potluck? You guessed it – Funeral Potatoes!
