Angel Moroni statue replaced on LDS Temple

A refurbished statue of the Angel Moroni was recently placed on the Monticello Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, replacing a statue that had topped the building for the previous 16 years.
Temple President Tom Livingston reports that the old nine-foot statue, which faces East, showed the ravages of age as the gold had worn off the top of Moroni’s head. Livingston adds that there is evidence that the statue had been struck several times by lightning.
The new statue actually topped the Snowflake Arizona Temple for several years until it was replace earlier this summer. The older statues are refurbished, sanded and re-gilded before they are placed on another temple.
When the Monticello Temple was built in 1998, it was originally topped by a white Angel Moroni statue. That statue was replaced 16 years ago.
