Lady Bucks bring home a trophy after second place performance at 1A state track meet

The Monticello High School girls track team brought home a trophy from the state track meet with a strong performance. Twenty Buckaroo girls contributed to the effort, which was enough to pull away from third place Duchesne in the final events of the two-day meet. St. Joseph claimed the first place trophy.

Macee Nielson won two events and was third in another to pace the Buckaroos. Macee finished first in the 3200 meter race, third in the 1600 meter race and anchored the medley relay team to a first place finish.

Emmanuelle Reay claimed the high jump title late in the day to help clinch second place for the Buckaroos. Reay came into the meet with the fifth highest qualifying jump, but picked the right time to peak and claimed the championship by besting the competition. She also finished seventh in the long jump.

Ashley Dowell closed a successful high school athletic career second place finishes in the javelin and the discus. She also is listed on the academic all state team.

Shantel Musselman contributed to the score in three events, running a leg on the winning medley relay team, a sixth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay and a 5th place finish in the 400 meters.

Miriam Reay was on the winning medley relay team, the fifth place 4x100 medley team and was sixth in the 200 meter race.

Janessa Bowring was on the winning medley relay team and was eighth in the 200 meter race.

Loren Randall was fifth in 800 meters and was on the sixth place 4x400 relay team.

Other members of the fifth place 4x100 relay team are Elisabeth Coisman, Ashley Moore and Jessica Hail.

Other members of the sixth place 4x400 relay team are Nichole Freestone and Anja Hochreutener.

Other members of the team include Marci Nielson, Aleesha Wells, Bettina Benally, Annie Anderson, Lisanne Metselaar, Jennifer Toomey, Jacque Anderson, Kara Rogers, and Jennifer Mantz.

For the Buckaroo boys, Adam Butler led the way by placing in three events. Butler was fifth in the 300 meters, sixth in 1600 meters and anchored a seventh place finish in the medley relay.

Aaron Butler was a member of the medley relay team and the sixth place 4x100 relay team and finished seventh in the 200 meter run.

Kelvin Curtis was sixth at 400 meters, followed closely by Devin Wright in seventh. Other members of the medley relay team are Josh Anderson and Joseph Weatherford. Other members of the 4x100 relay team are Kevin Anderson, Connor Frost and Ivan Rodriguez. Other members of the Buckaroo team are Dallin Duncan, Jesse Barton and David Boyle.

Hope Johnson led the Monument Valley girls with a fifth place finish in the javelin. She was joined by teammates Mariah Taylor, Lois Leber, Crystal Cly (eighth in discus), Sabina Leber (eighth in javelin) and Tyna Black.

Deidra Jensen was the lone athlete from Navajo Mountain.

Joshua Nelson led the Monument Valley boys with a third place finish in the long jump. He was joined by teammates Danner June, Adrian Deal, Von Drew Denny, Kendricks Chee and Devon Denny.

Representing Whitehorse High School are Josiah Begay (seventh in javelin), Joshua John (eighth in discus), Lance Tohtsonnie, Kenny Whitehair and Brandon Harrison.

San Juan’s Katie Hiatt finished seventh in the 1600 meter race in the 2A meet. Megan Macdonald also competed for the Lady Broncos.
