High drama at state drama

The San Juan High School Drama Team fared exceedingly well at the recent State Drama Festival in Parowan.
In fact, SJH was only one of three 2A schools to receive a “Team Superior” plaque. There are approximately 20 2A schools in the state currently.
“I’m really proud of how my students acted at the event,” said SJH drama teacher Ann Jennings. “Even though some of our students didn’t receive a medal, they had excellent performances and received high rankings. I know that they will continue to grow in their art and do even better next year.”
Of the 16 students who attended the State Festival, 10 of them received superior medals.
Students receiving a superior medal included the following: Austin Seiter, humorous monologue; Nathan Webb, humorous monologue; Samantha Bergeman, dramatic monologue; McKenzie Adams and Morgan Glover, pantomime; Victoria Black and Alana Benallie, classical scene; and Becca Black, Kortney Johnson and Jessica McDaniel, classical scene.
“I know one of the coveted events, according to the students, is the showcase round,” said Jennings. “Both of our classical scenes made it to that round, as did our pantomime. Our girls represented our school well.”
In addition to the individual event medals, the cast of the one-act play “Mind Games” each received a superior medal for their performances.
“Mind Games” was one of three one-acts (out of five) to receive a superior medal.
