Local emergency responders honored

Several local residents were honored recently when the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) held a leadership summit with the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
Otis Oldman, from Utah Navajo Health System, presented information about using Google Plus codes to help find residences and locations in remote areas.
Jasper Barney and Jeremy Hoggard received awards at the event.
Barney, the Fire Chief for Montezuma Creek, was recognized as a Friend of EMS. He has served Montezuma Creek for over 30 years. As Fire Chief, he trained generations of responders, shows up to every call, and leads with his heart.
While presenting the award, a DPS official stated that Barney “...is the embodiment of community service, known for being first on the scene and last to leave. Jasper is truly the spirit of EMS in his community.
Hoggard, from San Juan County EMS, was recognized as the Emergency Medical Services Instructor of the Year. He is both a flight paramedic and a dedicated educator.
The DPS official presenting the award stated, “Jeremy is known for his compassionate care and for making complex concepts accessible to students.
“His ‘no one left behind’ approach ensures rural EMTs receive rigorous, supportive training. Jeremy’s impact is felt in both field outcomes and classroom success.
“We are honored to award Jeremy Hoggard as EMS Instructor of the Year.”
