Governor Mitt Romney is uniquely positioned to serve Utah and fight for Utahns. He led the 2002 Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics and, with a team of volunteers and managers, turned the struggling Games into a success story.
In 2012, Mitt was the Republican nominee for President. He was a candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination and served as Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 through 2007.
Before entering into public service, Mitt led a successful business career. He was the co-founder of Bain Capital, a leading investment company, and the turnaround CEO of Bain and Company, an international management consulting firm.
Mitt serves on the board of directors of Marriott International and as Chairman of the Solamere Capital Executive Partner Group.
In addition to his public and private sector experience, Mitt has served with several charities and in volunteer positions in his church and community. He currently works with CharityVision in Salt Lake City and the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases in Boston. Mitt earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and his JD/MBA from Harvard University.
He is the proud husband to Ann Romney, father to five sons, and grandfather to 24 grandchildren.
As a U.S. Senator, Mitt’s top priorities will include:
•  Balancing The Federal Budget​​: Mitt is a deficit hawk. While Governor, he worked across the aisle to cut taxes 19 times and balanced the budget every year. In the Senate, Mitt will work with like-minded senators to reduce the $21 trillion national debt - a burden that should not be passed along to future generations of taxpayers.
•  Returning Powers To The States​​: Mitt believes that powers not reserved to the federal government must be returned to the states. During Mitt’s travels to all 29 counties, one theme is heard across county lines: we need to reduce the heavy hand of the federal government, particularly for our rural communities.
Mitt knows Utah is better equipped to handle policies regarding education, public lands, school safety, water rights, transportation, and healthcare, and will work to return those powers to the states.
•  Taking Utah Values To Washington​​: Mitt believes Washington can learn from the people in Utah. Utahns treat one another with respect, even though they may not see eye to eye on issues.
When Utahns are asked to lend a helping hand, they show up by the hundreds - something Mitt experienced during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Mitt will take Utah’s values of civility, enthusiasm, and compassion with him to Washington.
Talk is cheap. Action is essential. Mitt’s experience, relationships, and national credibility will allow him to accomplish more for Utah.
As a conservative, he will fight to balance the budget and rein in excessive spending, lower the cost of health insurance, fight for better immigration policies, and work to end federal overreach. Mitt promises to serve with honor, integrity, and in a manner that will make Utahns proud.
