Girls golf and track mark end of 2016-17 sports season at San Juan High

It’s that time of year when we say good-bye to another senior class at San Juan High, and with the approach of graduation comes the completion of another great year of interscholastic sports for the Broncos.
The San Juan track teams and girls golf, the last ones standing, have now closed the book on the 2016-17 school year, as they finished their seasons last week at their respective championships.
The Broncos boys and girls track teams competed at the Utah High School Activities Association State Track and Field Championships this past Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10 at Brigham Young University.
After two days of competition, the boys team finished twelfth out of eighteen teams and the girls team finished tied for eighteenth.
Individuals and relay teams scoring points for the Broncos include: Katie Giddings, seventh in the Shot Put; Peter Shumway, third in both the Shot Put and Discus; Nathan Nielson, seventh in the 100 meters; Garrett Chamberlain, fifth in the 800 meters; the 4x100 team of Nielson, Ethan Vess, Chamberlain and Jaxon Torgerson, second place; the 4x400 team of Torgerson, Thomas Hook, Chamberlain and Nielson, seventh place.
Congratulations to all those who represented San Juan throughout the season and competed right down to the end.
Girls Golf
Four Broncos made the trip to the Mountain View Golf Course in West Jordan, UT on Thursday, May 18 to compete in the 2A Girls State Golf Tournament.
While the team didn’t finish as well as they would have liked, the future of girls golf at San Juan looks bright, as all four girls are just freshmen.
Jalynn Swenson led the way for the Broncos, shooting a 129. She was followed by Whitnie Ivins, who was just three strokes back at 132. Brittany Grover and Hope Holliday each shot 141.
Academic All-state
Two Broncos were named to the UHSAA Academic All-State teams for their respective sports.
Seniors Carver Black for baseball and William Heck for tennis. The combined GPA for the 2A Baseball Academic All-state team was 3.993 and the Tennis team had a combined GPA of 3.998.
Congratulations to Carver and William for their accomplishments on the Diamond and Court as well as the classroom
Last but not least
With the end of the 2016-17 school year, San Juan also says good-bye to three of our coaches.
Monty Lee (football), Cassie Moon (volleyball) and Justin Moon (girls basketball) have chosen to move on after many years of dedicated service to the students of San Juan High.
Coaches, thank you for your hard work and dedication and countless hours spent on the fields, courts and endless bus rides. We wish you the best of luck and continued success in all your pursuits.
