Fiddling poet coming to Blanding

When Ken Waldman, Alaska’s Fiddling Poet, comes to Blanding on Monday, September 24, it will be Waldman’s first ever public show in San Juan County and the end of a three-show Utah tour co-sponsored by Utah Humanities.
It’s his first visit to the state since 2004. Waldman is a long-time nationally touring artist who combines old-time Appalachian-style string-band music, original poetry, and Alaska-set storytelling for a show uniquely his.

One of Waldman’s books, the 2008 memoir, Are You Famous?, details his many tours across the country.
He’ll be in Blanding in the midst of a tour that includes events in Austin, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Denver.
Earlier in the day he will be working with San Juan County students in local schools.
A 30-year Alaska resident, Waldman has ten books, including eight full-length poetry collections, and nine CDs, including two for children.
His live performance has been described by Austin Chronicle writer, Ric Williams, “Feels like a Ken Burns movie… Always recommended.”
More recently, Shepherd Express Weekly in Milwaukee termed Waldman “A one-man Prairie Home Companion,” and The Denver Post has called Waldman’s mix of music and words “Renegade Americana.”
Waldman’s show appeals to anyone who enjoys traditional Appalachian-style fiddling, smart poetry, acclaimed storytelling, or Alaska.
