Farewell comments by Mayor Doug Allen

I have had the privilege of serving as your Mayor for the last eight years and also of serving on the City Council for six years before for a total of 14 years.
It has been rewarding for me, as I have been able to hopefully help make this City a little nicer place to live.
It has been great to work with the many people who have served with me on the City Council, the City Employees, Volunteer Firemen and the many, many volunteers serving on the Planning Commission, Parks& Beautification, Golf Board, Recreation, Airport, Economic Development, and V.M.T.E. committees.
Monticello is truly fortunate to have so many good, civic-minded people helping us have a great community to live, work and play.
It has also been rewarding to be able to work with all the fine people throughout this San Juan County, Southeast Utah in the Association of Local Governments, and with the State and Federal people.
Many times people in Politics are demonized in the news and general, but I can assure you that by and large most are just trying to do their best to help all of us have better lives.
Some of the improvements to our community that I have been blessed to be a small part of are: the Hideout Golf Course, the Visitors Center, the Swimming Pool, Mill Site Memorial Park, Veterans Memorial, San Juan Health Clinic, new Operating Room at San Juan Hospital, replacement of 19.5 miles of water collection pipeline and collection points, rebuilding of Main and Center Streets and infrastructure, other street improvements, our new Airport.
These have been able to go forward with help of many, many, people’s efforts and vision.
Monticello has some great things happening in the near future, two of which are the Community Center at the Hideout Golf Course, and the Canyon Country Discovery Center just north of the City.
I again thank all our your for your support and help through my time serving. It has been a pleasure.
I wish our new Mayor Tim Young and the City Council the best and hope all of you will support their efforts to improve our City.
Sincerely Doug Allen, Mayor of Monticello, 2006-2013
