Events mark Easter season for area churches

Christians throughout San Juan County will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday on March 31. Many churches in the area have special services and activities planned.
The San Juan Community Church in Monticello has evening services Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning at 7 p.m. An Easter Sunrise Service is at 7 a.m., on Sunday, March 31.
The First Baptist Church in Monticello will celebrate Good Friday with services at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29. A Sunrise Service will be held Sunday at 7 a.m. and will be followed by breakfast. Regular services will also be held with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Worship at 11 a.m.
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Monticello will meet Thursday, March 28 for Holy Thursday services at 5:15 p.m. and Friday, March 29 for Good Friday services at 6 p.m. They will hold Easter Mass at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday. Mass will also be held in La Sal at 5 p.m. Saturday evenings during the summer.
The Monticello Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will present an Easter cantata on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at the Monticello North LDS Chapel. The musical program, written by Sally deFord, is called “Come Unto Christ”.
National Honor Societies at San Juan and Monticello high schools plan easter egg hunts on Saturday in their respective communities. The Blanding event is at 10 a.m. at Visitor Center park.
Regular services are held at the following churches:
First Baptist Church in Blanding holds a 9:30 a.m. Sunday School and 11 a.m. worship followed by fellowship. They also hold weekly Bible study Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Faith Assembly of God in Blanding holds services Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and evening prayer at 7 p.m.
Local congregations of the LDS Church hold sacrament services at 9 a.m. for the Monticello Third and Fourth wards and La Sal and Eastland branches. Sacrament service start at 11 a.m. for First and Second wards in Monticello.
Blanding wards meet in the Blanding Stake Center at 9 a.m. (Seventh Ward), 11 a.m. (Second Ward), and 1 p.m. (Third Ward).
They meet at the Blanding South Chapel at 9 a.m. (Eighth Ward), 11 a.m. (First Ward), and 1 p.m. (Fifth Ward). They meet in the Blanding North Chapel at 9 a.m. (Sixth Ward) and 11 a.m. (Blue Mountain Young Single Adult Branch).
