2024 election filing period nears

The candidate filing period for the 2024 general elections will be opening up at the start of the year. County residents will be electing three school board members, one commissioner and three other county positions in 2024.
The candidate filing period will open on January 2nd, 2024 and close on January 8. Candidates can file for election at the Clerk’s office in Monticello daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The county clerk’s office is located at 117 South Main Street.
Among the positions up for election include the San Juan County School Board seats in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th districts.
The 1st district in the San Juan School board includes north of Devil’s Canyon into Monticello and all the way north before Spanish Valley which is in the Grand County School District. The seat is currently held by board President Lori Maughan. The election will be for a four-year term.
The 2nd district in the San Juan School board includes south of Devil’s Canyon and most of the Blanding area. The seat is currently held by Nan Barton. The election will be for a two-year term.
The 4th district in the San Juan School board includes Aneth and Montezuma Creek north to near Highway 191. The seat is currently held by Steve Black. The election will be for a four-year term.
County residents will also be electing a San Juan County Commissioner for the 1st district. The district includes Northeast Blanding, Monticello and north from Monticello to the Grand County line. The seat is currently held by Bruce Adams. The election will be for a four-year term.
Also being elected to four-year terms are the San Juan County Treasurer, Recorder and Surveyor.
Currently serving as Treasurer is Glenis Pearson, Cindi Holyoak as Recorder, and Brad Bunker as Surveyor.
In 2024 County residents will also be voting for State House District 69, State Senate District 26, and State School Board District 15.
In statewide elections, San Juan County residents will be voting for Utah House District 3, A Federal Utah Senate seat and Utah Governor. Residents will also be voting on the 2024 Presidential race.
