Remarkable week for Broncos... and SJR News

It was quite a week at the state basketball tournaments in Richfield.

The San Juan Record and Redrock Radio followed the local teams to the culminating games of the year, highlighted by a second-place finish for the San Juan Broncos in the 3A tournament.

The basketball action was intense and the behind-the-scenes action was almost as dramatic.

Soon after the Bronco’s thrilling victory over top-seeded Grantsville in the semifinals on Friday, our lead broadcaster and sports Editor Rhett Sifford received a text from his wife, Abageal. She was in labor! Rhett rushed home and arrived just a few hours before the baby arrived

The Siffords welcomed a healthy baby boy, James Rhett Sifford, in the early morning hours of February 27. Everyone is healthy and happy, including the baby’s big brother Alan.

Our congratulations!

David Boyle jumped in the car and drove back to Richfield to help call the games during the last day of the season, including a fifth-place finish for the Grand Red Devils and a second-place finish for the Broncos.

It was the culmination of a remarkable season for all of us.

Over the past six months, we broadcast more than a dozen football games and nearly 60 basketball games on Redrock Radio. Working with our advertising sponsors and our broadcast partners at pictureitpalmer.com, I think that we did a great job for a first time effort.

We are excited to continue to develop the broadcasts of high school football and basketball.

Special thanks to Rhett, David, and Lane Palmer, and all the others who helped us out along the way.

Of course, we also thank our sponsors, who make the broadcasts possible.

There will be changes next year, including the addition of Whitehorse and Monument Valley high school teams to the mix. With the Monticello Bucks dropping from 2A to 1A, and the San Juan Broncos dropping from 3A to 2A, there will be many other adjustments.

Thank you for your support and patience.
