A lot going on in San Juan

Election day is less than two months away.  The San Juan Record is planning to run a profile of the major party candidates whose names are on the General election ballot.
The schedule includes September 28 for US House and Senate candidates, October 5 for San Juan School Board candidates, October 12 for Utah House and Senate candidates, October 19 for Utah Governor and Attorney General candidates, and October 26 for County Commission candidates.

One of the highlights of the annual Fourth of July parade in Blanding was simply watching a little boy enjoying the parade. I recognized Teagan Warner from the Teag is Tough page on Facebook.
While Teag looked like the hundreds of other kids at the parade, I knew the incredible challenges he has faced in the past year. I am glad that we are able to feature Teag and his family in Out of the Blues beginning on page 4.

The tenth annual Newspaper Rock 10K will take place on October 8 in spectacular Indian Creek Canyon. The Four Corners School is taking over management of the race from the San Juan Record, although we are still very involved and will be a sponsor for years to come.

There is a price increase for the race this year because the BLM now charges $8 per runner, even though every step of the 6.2-mile race course is on land owned by the Utah Department of Transportation. The finish line is on private land.
The charge, apparently, is for the beautiful views (and they are spectacular!). I’m not sure if the BLM will offer a discount if runners promise to ignore the views.

There is a lot going on in San Juan County this week, including the annual Utah Navajo Fair, the San Juan ATV Safari, and homecoming at Monticello High School.
The effort to oppose the proposed Bears Ears National Monument gains steam on Saturday with a benefit taco dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a presentation by Bill Howell on States Rights at 8 p.m. Both events take place at San Juan High School.
Next week is the inaugural San Juan Freedom Fest, featuring Darryl Worley and Charley Jenkins. Proceeds benefit the Save Bears Ears effort.
