Bathing bears a big hit

Many readers were intrigued by our September 24 cover photo of a bear enjoying a dip in a local stock-watering tub.
David Ketron and Michael Lee captured the photographs with a motion-activated game camera on land north of Monticello.
David said he was wondering why the normally clear water was so muddy. He realized after checking the camera and seeing that at least five bears were captured in the photographs.

With this issue of the San Juan Record (Vol. 100, Number 1), we begin our centennial year of publication. On September 29, 1915, the first issue of the weekly newspaper was published by Oscar W. McConkie.
Now, 99 years later, we begin our centennial year without missing a single week in the interim.

Supporters of five men facing federal charges related to the May 10 Recapture Canyon protest are using the Internet to help raise funds. At the press deadline on Monday, donors have contributed $2,185 for legal fees.
