Disturbing cases of poaching

There have been several especially disturbing cases of poaching in San Juan County recently. Last week, two mature bull elk were illegally shot near the West Summit Road. Only the heads were taken. All of the meat was left to rot. It is likely these animals were killed with the use of a spotlight. The use of a spotlight to take big game animals is dangerous, illegal and unethical. There are several other unsolved poaching cases currently under investigation. Wildlife belongs to the citizens of the State of Utah. Poachers steal from everyone by taking hunting opportunities from honest people. To protect your natural resources, anyone with information about illegal wildlife activity is encouraged to call the Help Stop Poaching Hotline at 1-(800)662-DEER or call the local Conservation Officer Paul Washburn at (435)820-6016. Hunting permit and cash rewards are available and information can be kept strictly confidential. Courtesy photo
