Derryl Jack named 2008 Monticello Citizen of the Year

Due to outstanding leadership and service to the community, Derryl Jack has been named Monticello’s 2008 Citizen of the Year.

Jack was awarded the honor during the holiday concert of the Bar D Wranglers on December 19 in Monticello.

Derryl has served as the manager of Zions Bank in Monticello for many years. He is the father of five and the president of Blue Mountain Entertainment.

Derryl has worked to enrich all of our lives by bringing Broadway performances, classical and pop music and storytelling events to this city.

The annual Messiah production is made possible through Derryl’s efforts as conductor. He travels from Moab to Blanding each week to lead rehearsals. These performances are rich with tradition and give participants a sense of community and heritage. Derryl is not paid for his time or travel expenses.

As a piano tuner, Derryl has spent countless hours in tuning pianos for productions and events at little or no cost. He is also a vocalist for local performing groups. In this capacity he also gives freely of his time and talents.

Derryl has given Monticello a wonderful Christmas present year after year: the precious gift of music and also volunteered many hours of time to the Boy Scouts of America and to church service.

Each year for more than a decade, the Monticello City Council accepts nominations for the Citizen of the Year award. The honoree is presented with a plaque and the keys to the city.
