Cheryl Bowers

A Blanding resident for more than 35 years, with a love for Blanding and those who live here, I have loved serving on City Council for the past six months.
Blanding will be challenged as visitors continue to learn about the amazing landscapes and wide open spaces we offer, especially as we watch Moab and Monument Valley, become overwhelmed with their visitors.  This challenge needs to be faced now, otherwise big business may control what we become.
With over 20 years of successful leadership not only as a Mother, but as an Executive for AMRG/Eagle Air med, I have the experience to help navigate this important part of our history.  I know how to wisely spend tax dollars, work hard and be proactive.
Key Priorities:
Help Maintain a Balanced Economy.  A balanced economy is one that includes a strong presence of many facets of industry, including government, healthcare, tourism and other private enterprise. Since being appointed to City Council six months ago, I have voluntarily attended every Blanding Area Travel Council (BATC) Meeting.
I took part in the Area Sector Analysis Project (ASAP).  This project matches the operations and priorities of businesses with what Blanding has to offer.   I also added Economic Development as a regular report in City Council meetings to monitor important information.
Help Control Growth.  I don’t want to grow like Moab, I love the small town quality of life that Blanding offers.  But we do need some progress or we will fall behind.
While we can’t control private business, we can help to mold the direction our economy takes by seeking out operations such as healthcare manufacturing or agricultural manufacturing, to supplement our tourism industry.
Spend Tax Dollars Wisely. Our spending and saving must be done wisely to plan for our future and ensure that tax rates and utility rates are not increased for our residents.
City Beautification.  If we improve our downtown, our wayfinding, our vacant lots and rundown buildings, it not only improves the quality of life for the wonderful people here, but it makes it more attractive for visitors to stop and spend money locally and for potential future businesses.
I will listen to Blanding residents and address your ideas and concerns about Blanding and our future.  Please feel free to contact me any time!  I would appreciate your vote for Blanding City Council.
