Charges filed in auto accident
Felony charges have been filed in Seventh District Court in the automobile accident that resulted in the death of two women from Monticello. Teresa Perkins, age 58 from Dove Creek, CO, is charged with two counts of felony automobile homicide on August 20, 2008.
Perkins was behind the wheel of a car that ran a red light and entered the intersection of Highways 191 and 491 in Monticello at speeds estimated at up to 80 miles per hour. Her vehicle hit a car in the intersection driven by Alice Rogers and with Nereece Johnson as a passenger. Rogers and Johnson were killed in the accident.
Perkins was life-flighted to a hospital in Grand Junction, CO, where she was eventually released. Law enforcement officials report that as recently as last month, Perkins still had a valid Colorado drivers license.
