Buckaroo wrestling peaks

The Monticello Buckaroos continue to pick up steam as they roll toward the final weeks of the season. This week, the Bucks picked up wins over the Grand Red Devils and the Dove Creek Bulldogs.
The Buckaroos came out with an exciting 48-35 win over the Devils. Tim Ryan lead off with a second period pin. Eric Anderson stepped up and earned a pin in 90 seconds. Austin Wilcox started strong, put was turned and pinned in a heartbreaker.
Jake Giles put the Bucks back in the win column, earning a pin in 29 seconds. John Mayne worked hard but lost by technical fall. Cousins Dailyn Warren and Roque DeAnda won the next two matches, each putting up 12 point leads before earning wins by fall. Curtis Baird fought hard, but in the end lost by fall in the third period. Coltan Musselman wrapped things up with a quick takedown and fall 44 seconds into the match.
The next night the Bucks put together a 43-28 win over the Bulldogs. Coltan Musselman wasted no time, winning by fall in the second period. CJ Cordasco was on the mat at home for the first time this season and put on a great show for the home crowd.  Cordasco took complete control in a huge 22-5 technical fall win.
Tim Ryan was leading 5-2 before earning a second period fall. Jake Giles and John Mayne each worked hard but fell to their opponents.
Hunter Bowring thrilled the crowd in an exciting 8-0 win. Bowring had a rematch of the Shiprock Tournament final and kept finding ways to score against a strong opponent.  Dailyn Warren fell behind early, but roared back for a 12-2 win. Wrapping up the night were Randy Jelly and Curtis Baird, who each fought hard before losing by fall.
This is the final week of action for the Buckaroo wrestlers before they head into the post season. Tonight (Wednesday) they host a double dual at MHS beginning at 6 p.m. when they take on the Cortez Panthers and the San Juan Broncos in back to back duals. Senior wrestlers will be honored at the match.
