Bluff project awarded state funds

Across Utah, a top “worry button” is the availability of affordable housing. The State of Utah is working to alleviate the situation. Recently, the Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund Board approved $2,943,685 for the purchase, renovation, or construction of 80 affordable multi-family units and 19 single-family units for Utah communities.

The Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund is comprised of state and federal funds administered by the Utah Division of Housing and Community Development.

Design BuildBLUFF submitted a winning application for $15,000 for the construction of a home to serve a Native American family in Bluff.

Midvale Mayor JoAnn Seghini, chair of the Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund Board, notes: “Some of the units funded by the Board will house homeless individuals while other units will house working professionals such as teachers, health care and emergency services personnel and young families.

Gordon Walker, Housing and Community Development Division Director notes, “Each unit provides quality housing for people with lower incomes. With continued escalation in Utah’s housing market, these projects are integral to maintaining some affordable housing in our communities.”

The Utah Division of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is currently accepting loan applications from non-profit or for-profit developers for funds from the Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund (OWHLF) to assist the creation and preservation of affordable rental housing throughout the state of Utah.
