Girl Scouts on river trip

By Shizuku Yamamoto (Zuki)
Have you ever been San Juan River rafting? The Girl Scout troop 2225 (from Bluff), went river rafting on August 26!!!
The girls in troop 2225 are Kimberlee, Hayden, Kony, Kyrie, Lottie, and me. By the way, my name is Zuki.
Our leaders are Kathy Carson, Jennifer Davila and my mom Hiroko Yamamoto. I am going to tell you about how it was.
First, when we sold Girl Scout cookies this early spring, we set a goal that we wanted to do a river rafting trip at San Juan River and learn about local nature.
When we were done selling Girl Scout cookies, we reached our goal! So, that meant we could go rafting!!!
Next, when we were planning it, our troop leader Kathy helped plan it. After we were done planning it, a person named Cody who worked for Tse Kooh Outfitters was willing to take us on the river trip.
Then on August 26, we were ready to go on the river trip! YAY!!
Our plan was to go to Swinging Bridge then go down the river then, reach our final stop, Sand Island. First, we drove to Swinging Bridge and met Cody there. Next, Cody told us some tips and what to do if you accidentally fall off a boat and some other thing.
He also told us to wear life jackets and how to hold the paddles. When he was done talking and explaining, we headed to the boat and got on. There were two boats. One for the girl scouts’ parents. The other one was for the girls scouts, Cody, and Kathy.
Next, when we were on the river, we wanted to swim so the boats stopped and we got off for a swim. We swam about 30 minutes then got back on the boat, and then, we rowed, rowed, and rowed.
After our arms were kind of tired, we went on a quick hike. Also we ate lunch. It was sandwiches. I ate my sandwich by the river with my friend.
Then we wanted to go swimming again! Cody said “Yes” but he said only for about 15 minutes because there were thunder clouds coming.
One of the moms, who was also a river guide, said, “It is very hard to row in the rain and the wind.” So, we swam but only for a short time. When we were done swimming, we got on the boat for a very, very, very, very, long time. We also rowed. alot.
We were close to Sand Island, which meant we were almost at the end of our trip! We were also very tired. On the other hand, the moms’ boat was faster than us because, in the beginning, the girl scout boat was almost always in the front.
Since we used all our energy in the beginning, at the end we were very tired and almost had no energy. But we made it to Sand Island. And we were tired, but it was also very fun!
When we got to Sand Island, Cody told everyone to take off their life jackets, and get the stuff off the boat. Because our boat was an airboat, Cody told us how to fold the boat and put it away. We all laid on the boat to get the air out. It was so fun!
Thank you to those who supported us like people who bought Girl Scout Cookies, people who donated, girl scout volunteers, parents, leaders, and other people. Also thanks to Cody who was willing to bring us on the river trip and made yummy sandwiches.
Thank you very much for your support. All in all, thank you and it was so fun!! Thank you.
