Bluff resident reported missing
A 75 year-old Bluff resident has been missing since Tuesday, November 25.
Joseph Pachak was last seen on Tuesday, November 25 at around 4 PM in Bluff, according to the San Juan County Sheriff’s office.
Pachak was supposed to meet a group at Calf Canyon Café in Bluff on Tuesday, but didn’t show up. He also missed Thanksgiving dinner at two locations in Bluff and was reported missing on Thursday, November 27 at 5 PM.
The Sheriff’s office also notes that while Pachak is an avid outdoorsman who is known to take spontaneous hikes, it is reportedly unusual for him not to inform anyone of his whereabouts. He did not take his cell phone, wallet, or truck with him.
While an extensive search effort was held over Thanksgiving weekend, the Sheriff’s office announced they are scaling back their search operation on Monday, December 1.
However, Pachak’s disappearance remains an open investigation. The Sheriff’s office also states that there is no suspicion of foul play. Law enforcement will continue to follow up on all leads regarding the possible location and movements of Pachak.
Officials also offered their thanks for those who assisted in the search efforts over the weekend, including Bluff residents, San Juan County Search and Rescue, and the Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau.
Pachak is listed at 5’7”, is white with green colored eyes and white hair, and is reported to be in good health. He was last seen wearing a long sleeve shirt, although the color is not known.
Pachak is a long-time resident of Bluff. A renowned sculptor, his art can be found throughout San Juan County, including multiple sculptural pieces at Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum in Blanding.
Pachak also organized and created a nearly decade-long popular tradition of burning a wooden animal in Bluff during the winter solstice.
