BES vs. MES Walk-a-Thon brings out students’ “healthy” side

Eighty students from Blanding Elementary School and 86 students from Monticello Elementary School, as well as some family and friends, participated in a BES vs. MES Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, October 10, to celebrate National Child Health Month in October.

San Juan High School junior Katie Hiatt hosted the event in Blanding while Monticello High School junior Macee Nielson hosted the event in Monticello.  

Nielson said that the reason for the Walk-A-Thon was that “Katie and I wanted to encourage fitness in younger children as well promote cross-country and track in future generations.”   

Both groups started at 10 a.m. and finished at noon.  Hiatt and Nielson were pleasantly surprised with the large turnout.
