Another candidate in Monticello, one less in Blanding

Scott Shakespeare has announced that he will seek one of three open seats on the Monticello City Council as a write-in candidate. Shakespeare, the principal at Monticello High School, announced his write-in intentions on August 31.

The November election will have three open council positions, but just one candidate’s name printed on the ballot. Walter Bird was the only candidate who filed in time to be listed on the ballot.
The three open seats are currently held by Bird, Blen Freestone and Cassie Boyle.

It is a different situation in Blanding, where six candidates filed for the three open positions on the Blanding City Council.
The list of candidates will decrease from six to five in Blanding after candidate Jeremy Redd was hired as the new Blanding City treasurer.

The remaining five candidates on the ballot are Charlie Taylor, Joe B. Lyman, Kim Smith and incumbents Eric Johnson and Kelly Laws.

The three open seats are currently held by Johnson, Laws and Randy Pemberton.

The election will be held on Tuesday, November 6. Voters will also see a question on the ballot regarding the use of vouchers for students to attend private schools.
