San Juan wins homecoming volleyball match over Parowan

The San Juan volleyball team hosted the Parowan Rams in their homecoming week match on Tuesday, September 21. The Rams scored the first two points off a block and service error, but the Broncos rallied with a strategic tip from Jaci Su’esu’e.

Parowan was scrappy though, answering with an unexpected attack at the net from a back row pass. Parowan was up 8-4 before San Juan started to feel their rhythm and turn the tide.

Good assists from the back row enabled them to set the ball up for kills, tying the first set at 8-all. The Broncos denied attacks at the net and Su’esu’e attacked in the middle with the right or left hand, confusing the defense. The Broncos took the first set 25-18.

In the second set, the Rams kept pace, but Bailey Brown broke it open with tips to the hole, giving the home team a morale boost.

The Rams came out victorious after a long volley but lost momentum to a service error. Parowan dug some hard balls but was denied at the net by Macy Jacobsen.

Su’esu’e was blocked in the middle but hit hard into both blockers. Brown continued to have success on the outside. But the Rams struggled with net errors and called a time-out at 18-13.

Kaeahlyah Howard killed from the off-hand side. Parowan battled to within two points, but the Broncos shut them down again, 25-18.

The Broncos maintained a steady flow as Parowan struggled to mount any offense, taking the third set and a sweep in front of the homecoming crowd 25-6.

With the win, San Juan improved to 5-8 on the season. The girls remain in the #19 spot in the 2A RPI standings for this week.

Kinley Noyes continues to lead San Juan in overall kills for the season with 125 on the season, an average of almost three per set. Avina Cordova leads serving percentage and ace percentage with 92 percent and 21.6 percent respectively.

Macey Jacobson and Jaci Su’esu’e lead the Broncos with 21 blocks apiece, and Bailey Brown has 125 digs for San Juan on the season.

The girls were set to remain at home for two tough matchups when this week began. They hosted Kanab on Tuesday, September 28. South Sevier comes to Blanding this Friday, October 1.
