San Juan High boys wrestlers earn All-State honors

Thirteen wrestlers representing San Juan County finished third or better in their respective state tournaments this season.
The San Juan Record is proud to present profiles of the San Juan High School boys All-State wrestlers this week.
Profiles of additional wrestlers and All-State athletes will appear in upcoming issues as the teams are named by the Deseret News.

JD Palmer
San Juan senior ~ second place (2x)
175 pounds ~ 37 wins - 9 losses

Head Coach Shane Musselman: “JD is a coach’s dream – a young man who began as an average wrestler but who had the drive and tools needed to become the outstanding wrestler he is today. JD is first-off a great kid. He was easy to coach, a great student, and an outstanding athlete. He sets goals and goes out of his way to achieve them. I have high expectations for JD as he moves on to the next chapter in his life.”

Chad Yellow
San Juan senior ~ second place (3x)
120 pounds ~ 32 wins - 7 losses

Head Coach Shane Musselman: “Chad is almost impossible to coach. He is one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever coached but has his own style. His body does things most of us would find impossible. My coaching advice was to tell him to do Chad things. He is a great kid with huge amounts of potential. He has grit and a drive to be successful. As Chad moves on in life, I think he will use what he learned as a wrestler to continue to be a success.”

Grady Lacy
San Juan junior ~ third place
120 pounds ~ 22-13

Head Coach Shane Musselman: “Grady has wrestling in his bloodlines. He has another year with us and two little brothers I look forward to being great wrestlers as well.
“Grady will be a four-time state placer and we hope to see him at the top of the podium next year. He is a great wrestler with the potential to get even better and I expect his senior campaign to be the most successful of his career.”

Miken Keith
San Juan sophomore ~ third place
138 pounds ~ 37-16

Head Coach Shane Musselman: “Miken hates to lose. He would tell me after every loss he was going to quit, then he would get right back out on the mat and tear it up.
“Miken is very athletic, a great kid, and one of San Juan’s top wrestlers. Best thing about Miken is that we get him back for two more years. I expect this kid to win a state championship if not two.”
