The San Juan High School girls soccer team has won five of their last six games with their only loss coming against Beaver in double overtime on August 28.
In that time span the Lady Broncos outscored their opponents 26-4 and improved to 5-4 on the season. They’re 3-1 in Region 18 play.
If the team wins one more game, they’ll match the most-ever-wins-in-a-season mark they set last season at six wins.
San Juan currently sits in 11th place in the Utah 2A standings based on the MaxPreps computer ranking system used to rank girls soccer teams. It’s very similar to the RPI system used in other Utah sports.
The loss to Beaver was a barnburner on August 28 in Blanding. San Juan scored the opening goal in the first half. Beaver rallied to tie with a goal in the second, then it took two overtimes to decide with Beaver coming out on top with the tie-breaking goal.
Amazingly all but one of the Lady Broncos’ losses this season have come in overtime.
The girls got back in the win column with a convincing 6-0 victory over Gunnison Valley in Gunnison on Tuesday, September 2. San Juan scored three goals in the first half and three more in the second.
On Thursday, September 4 the Lady Broncos returned home to host South Sevier. They scored one goal on the Lady Rams in the first half and one more in the second, earning a 2-0 win in front of the home crowd.
The team stayed at home to host #12 Millard on Tuesday, September 9 in a match that was played after the San Juan Record print deadline.
They will travel to play #16 Enterprise on Thursday, September 11, then they’ll face #8 Grand County on Tuesday, September 16 in Blanding.
