San Juan girls set to close regular season

The San Juan High School girls basketball team is heading into the final week of their regular season with just one game remaining on the schedule – at home against Kanab this Friday, February 11.
The Lady Broncos will definitely have their hands full. The Lady Cowboys are 15-4 on the season, ranked #2 in 2A girls basketball by the Deseret News. They beat San Juan 73-42 in the teams’ first meeting January 21 in Kanab.
The Lady Broncos have three wins and 19 losses on the season and were ranked #20 in the 2A RPI standings before they were taken offline by the Utah High School Activities Association over the past weekend.
Coming into this final week of the regular season, Serina Yanito continues to lead the Lady Bronco scoring attack with (unofficially) 210 points and 25 three-pointers.
Kaeah Howard is next in line with 161 points, which includes four threes on the year. Halli Palmer has scored 131 points this season and has also hit 25 three-point buckets.
Shaylin Nez has 77 points on the season with 15 threes. Adriana Johnson has 75 points with one three, Synessa Atcitty has 41, and Paige Bitsoie has 34 points including two threes.
Draikiia Lehi has scored 23 points on the season, Khadija Lee has 17, Khalil Eyetoo has 15 with a three, Hayden Shumway adds seven, and Brittney Lansing has five points and a three.
Mykayi Fowler and Alyssa Eltsosie round out the San Juan scoring headed into the final week of the regular season with three and two points respectively.
#19 seed San Juan began their state tournament on Tuesday, February 15 with a road victory 56-34 over Maeser Prep.
The win advances the Lady Broncos into the second round with another road game against #3 Millard on Friday, February 18, 7:00 pm.
