The San Juan High School boys soccer team finished the 2026 season with two wins in their last three games and their six wins this season is the most in program history going back to the 2019 season.
As reported in the April 22 issue of the San Juan Record the Broncos defeated Parowan 3-0 on April 20. They closed out their regular season with an exciting 2-1 double overtime win at Beaver on Thursday, April 21.
In that contest, both teams scored a goal in the first half, but neither were able to find the net in the second half, forcing overtime.
Neither team scored in the first overtime period so the game proceeded into double overtime where San Juan was able to drive home the game winner.
Staley Dandy and Renton Cardall scored the goals in the victory. Randall Black handled the majority of the goaltending duties and made a very impressive 23 saves.
With their 6-9 record the Broncos entered the 2026 2A Utah State Boys Soccer Tournament as the #18 seed. They were forced to travel to Spanish Fork where they faced a tough #15 seed in American Leadership Academy.
San Juan was unable to find the back of the net in the first round matchup, falling to the Eagles by a final of 5-0 and finishing the season with a 6-10 overall record.
Despite the loss the Broncos mustered ten shots on net and senior goalkeeper Wyatt Keith made 22 saves.
Jace Walker was the offensive leader for San Juan this season with his eight goals on the campaign. Renton Cardall was right behind with seven goals.
Kyle Begay and Wesley Berrett both netted two goals apiece this season. Randall Black, Cannon Kartchner, Noah Begay, and Staley Dandy all scored one apiece.
Dandy led the team with 29 shots on goal while Walker had 20, Cardall had 16, Berrett had 15, and Begay tallied 13.
Wyatt Keith was the standout for the Broncos this year. His 248 saves are third-most in the state of Utah and ninth-most in the entire nation.
Nobody in Utah had more saves per game than Keith’s 19.08 and only one player in the nation has more in that department – Charles Jordan of Langston Hughes, GA with 19.47.
Randall Black, who will take over for Keith next season, also provided some quality minutes in net for San Juan this season. He made 65 saves for an average of 4.3 per game.
Keith and Luke Jeppesen teamed up to register one of the Broncos’ shutout wins this season while Keith earned the other on his own.
San Juan Head Coach Jay Jones, who just completed his ninth season at the helm, reflected on his team and the season following the conclusion of their final game.
“This season was the best we have ever had for San Juan boys soccer since starting the program,” he stated. “To see the resilience and improvement the players have had is amazing.
“It’s such a privilege to see how the boys work as a team and keep trying no matter the situation. One fun fact from this season is that we were undefeated as a team in four overtime games.
“Senior Renton Cardall scored the winning goal in all three of the games we won in overtime. The other we won in a shootout.
“The boys on our team are amazing. In team sports it takes every player’s talents to succeed and they are doing that.”
San Juan will miss the contributions of Wyatt Keith, Renton Cardall, Kyle Begay, Noah Begay, and Dawson Hardin as they lose those players to graduation.
But with increasing success in the past couple of seasons there are numerous young players who are excited to step up and fill big roles in the coming years.
