Raider basketball teams earn first round byes and prepare for state

The Whitehorse Raiders boys and girls basketball teams went undefeated their last game of regular season play on Senior night in Montezuma Creek.

The boys basketball team secured a region title on February 15 when they defeated Pinnacle Academy 58-51. 

The Raiders were led by Brett James, who scored 13 in the game, with Tyrell Benally adding ten points for Whitehorse.

Lyric Phillips scored nine for Whitehorse, while Weston Manygoats and D’Wayne Nakai each poured in eight points. 

Nicolas Howell added six points while Keeyah Begay added four for the Raiders in their final home game of the year.

The Whitehorse Raiders boys team finish the regular season with a record of 14-7,first in Region play with a record of 6-1. The Raiders are the five seed in the 1A boys state basketball tournament.

The Raiders have a bye through the first round and open play at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2 in the Richfield Sevier Valley Center.

The boys will play the winner of a play-in game between Tintic and Mount Vernon.

The Lady Raiders also earned a victory in their final home game of the year as they defeated Pinnacle 60-24 on Senior night. 

Whitehorse finish with a regular-season record of 14-8. The Raiders finished second in the Region with a record of 6-2.

The Whitehorse team is the eight seed in the 1A girls state basketball tournament. 

The Raiders have a bye through the first round and open play against Water Canyon High at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at Richfield High School.
