Popular Abajo Enduro returns this weekend

The 2022 Abajo Enduro will bring mountain bikers into the Abajo Mountains in San Juan County for some intense downhill riding and competition this Friday and Saturday, August 5-6.
The annual race has grown every year since it began in 2014 and has become a very popular event among the sport’s enthusiasts. As a result, registered riders have been limited to 50 in recent years.
Racers will compete on Shay Ridge Trail on Friday from 2-4 p.m., Robertsons Pasture Trail from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, and Spring Creek and Racetrack trails from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Race organizer Dustin Randall said in a past interview with the San Juan Record, “The goal of the Enduro has always been to not only showcase the trails in the Abajos, but also bring people to Monticello.
“In that spirit, we’ve strived to make this a race that anyone can enjoy from first-time enduro riders to seasoned racers while still keeping some fun competition.”
As it has every year, the Abajo Enduro continues to garner positive reviews. One competitor said, “If you like raw, old-school enduro on rad trails, put this one on your list. It’s a very competitive field but a relaxed and fun vibe.”
Spectators are welcome at the event this weekend, but race organizers request that folks keep the trails clear for the racers.
