Monticello teams win region titles

Monticello High track and field teams won the Region 19 track meet at Monticello High on May 7.
The Monticello boys and girls teams both earned region championships.
Top four marks in each event qualified for the state tournament. In all 37 Monticello, athletes are entered to compete at the 1A state championship track meet.
In their dominated 210 point meet the Lady Buckaroos were led by 12 region titles including Marlee Mack and Maron Freestone who each won two region titles. Mack finished first in the 100 meter hurdles as well as the long jump, while Freestone finished first in the 400 meter dash and high jump.
Also winning region titles were Myah Lewis in the 200 meter dash, Josie Mack in the 300 meter hurdles, Marah Long in the 800 meter run, Ayla Carling in the 1600 meter run and Allie Carling in the 3200 meter run.
The lady Buckaroos were also champions in all three relay races. The 4x100 team included Madison Adair, Jane Burton, Myah Lewis, and Lilli Burton. The 4x400 team included Josie Mack, Maron Freestone, Grace Coleman, and Lilli Burton. And the spring medley including Marah Long, Grace Coleman, Latalia O’Harra, and Myah Lewis.
Earning second place finishes were Dani Black in the 300 hurdles and high jump and Madison Adair in the 100 meter dash and discus throw.
Also earning runner-up honors were Kyleigh Adair in the shot put, Analeigh Nebeker in the javelin, Ayla Carling in the 800, Allie Carling in the 1600, O’Harra in the 200, Freestone in the 100 hurdles, and Long in the 3200.
Third place finishes included Deja La Gilia in the 300 hurdles, Olivia Plemmons in the 400, Alexis Bailey in the 3200 and Elise Taylor in the shot put. Also earning third place finishes were O’Harra in the 100, Black in the 200, Josie Mack in the 100 hurdles and Allie Carling in the 800.
Fourth place finishers also qualified for the state meet including Plemmons in the 300 hurdles and 3200, Coleman in the 400, Bailey in the 1600, Jane Burton in the 200 and Kyleigh Adair in the discus.
The Monticello boys team was led to a region championship while winning 12 titles at the regional meet. Jarum Robison, Joshua Morrison and Aaron Gillette all won two titles for the Buckaroos. Robison won the discus and javelin, Morrison in the 100 and 200, and Gillette in the 800 and 1600.
Seth Taylor also won a title in the 110 hurdles, Kooper Nielson won the 300 meter hurdles and Eli Carling in the 3200 meter run.
The Buckaroos also won all three relay races including the 4x100 made up of Morrison, Tavon Black, Jaeden Camacho, and Carter Rogers. Monticello also won the 4x400 made up of Rogers, Taylor, Gillette and Kooper Nielson; and the sprint medley made up of Rogers, Camacho, Carling and Ronnie Harris.
Earning runner-up honors at the region meet including Ryan Lewis in the discus, shot put, and javelin. McKay Nielson in the 110 hurdles, Kooper Nielson in the 400, Taylor in the 300 hurdles and Carling in the 800.
Earning third place honors included Camren Carpenter in the shot put, Miles Coleman in the 200, Morrison in the long jump, Gillette in the 300 hurdles and Harris in the 400.
Finishing in fourth place at the meet and qualifying for the state tournament included JJ Dekorreon Sanders in the 400, Carter Francom in the high jump, McKay Nielson in the 300 hurdles, Taylor in the long jump and Coleman in the 100.
The 1A state championship meet takes place Friday and Saturday May 16 and 17 at the BYU track in Provo. While top four finishers in region 19 automatically qualify for state; athletes can also qualify by hitting certain high marks during the season.
Among those pre-qualified include Monticello boys athletes include Tavon Black, Jaeden Camacho and Carter Rogers in the 100 and 200, as well as Eli Carling in the 1600.
Monticello girls pre-qualified include Marlee Mack in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Josie Mack and Myah Lewis in the 100, Maron Freestone in the 300 hurdles, Lilli Burton in the 400, Marah Long in the 1600, and Ayla Carling in the 3200.
