Buckaroos continue region golf domination

For the first time this season the Monticello High School golf team didn’t have to hop on a bus and travel the state to play a match.
On Thursday, April 17 it was a quick drive down the street to play at the Buckaroos’ own Hideout Golf Course. Both home teams managed the friendly fairways to win their fourth consecutive region matches.
The Hideout proved to be kind to its local youth as the boys played their best match of the season. The weather, however, tried its best to prove a factor.
The wind reached high speeds, lengthening some holes and shortening others, making it a challenge to hit fairways and greens. Still, the boys finished with a season low score of 360. Green River and Pinnacle Canyon again did not qualify with a team score.
Traken Lee once again led the Bucks with an impressive round of 79. Jackson Keyes finished second, rolling in a 91, while Kooper Nielson and Canyon Christensen rounded out the qualified golfers, both shooting 95. Ryan Holt carded a 103 and John Leber a 148.
Traken Lee currently sits number one on the squad with an average score of 83 strokes per round. Canyon Christensen and Jackson Keyes sit number two collectively with average scores of 92. Kooper Nielson is third on the team with an average score of 98.
The Monticello girls shot their third-best number on the year with a team score of 393. The four qualified scores came from Alise Lewis, Cambree Chamberlain, Alli Young, and LE Olson.
Lewis led the Lady Bucks for the second time this year with a 91. Chamberlain was second in the race with a 98, while Olson finished third with a 100 on the dot.
Young qualified with a 104 to finish off the team score. Five other Lady Buckaroo golfers made the long drive to the Hideout to battle the wind: Rebecca Chamberlain (119), Xyemnah Alvarado (141), and Cailyn Harrod (155).
The “Battle of the Burtons” continued its epic tale with a “two point reversal” as sophomore Jane Burton reversed the order of things by defeating her sister, senior Lili Burton, with a five-stroke victory. Jane finished with a 112 to edge out Lili’s 117.
Alise Lewis leads the Monticello girls team with an average score of 89 followed by Cambree Chamberlain at 94 strokes per round and Allie Young at 98. LE Olson currently sits fourth with an average of 103.
The Buckaroo golf teams will hit the road on Wednesday, April 23 for their next match at the Carbon Country Club in Price.
