Buckaroo wrestlers wrap up regular season with matches at home, at Hotchkiss, CO

The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers wrapped up their regular season this past week with a home meet and a trip to Hotchkiss, CO for the Fight at the Fork tournament.
On Wednesday, January 15 the Buckaroos welcomed Montezuma-Cortez and Dolores for a tri meet. Buckaroo seniors Jarum Robison, Tavon Black, Tyson Wheeler, and Camren Carpenter were honored prior to the match, as was retired coach Kent Adair.
Against Dolores Buckaroos Miles Coleman and Diego Cortez defeated their opponents by fall, with Tavon Black earning a hard-fought 7-4 victory. Ronnie Harris fought hard but was defeated.
Against Montezuma Cortez, Arturo Gutierrez, Tyson Wheeler, and Jarum Robison all earned wins by fall. John Leber put up a dominating performance in a 15-0 technical fall win.
Diego Cortez, Miles Coleman, and Ronnie Harris were defeated. Arturo Gutierrez was defeated in an exhibition match.
On Saturday, January 18 the Buckaroos placed ninth out of the 23 teams participating in the Fight at the Fork at North Fork High School.
Leading the way were the boys at 215 pounds as the Buckaroos owned the finals with Tyson Wheeler and Jarum Robison facing off for the top spot. Wheeler earned the win by fall and the first-place medal.
Wheeler had four wins by fall on the day. Robison finished with the second-place medal after winning three matches by fall at the tournament.
Arturo Gutierrez also earned a spot in the finals after two wins by fall in the early rounds. He was defeated in a tough final match 7-3, finishing with a second-place medal.
Camren Carpenter brought home a fourth-place medal, winning three matches by fall on the day. Tavon Black finished in fifth and won two matches by fall.
John Leber rounded out the placers, finishing in sixth place, winning matches by 16-0 technical fall and a 14-4 major decision.
Also competing for the Buckaroos were Miles Coleman and Noah Dilts who each won a match by fall, Diego Cortez, and Ronnie Harris.
This Saturday, January 25 the Buckaroos will host the 1A Division A tournament. Come out and support the Buckaroo wrestlers in their efforts to qualify for the State Tournament. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
