Bronco boys golf team sits third in region heading into second half of season

The San Juan High School boys golf team is third in Region 15 play with a 400-stroke average through the first five matches of the 2024 season.
The team is ninth in the 2A standings among 13 teams and have improved their score in each match they’ve played.
Junior Nash Jones leads the Broncos with a 90-stroke average, which is eighth-best among Region 15 golfers. He’s 28th in the 2A individual standings.
San Juan opened the season with a 434-stroke effort on August 13 at the Moab Golf Course, finishing fourth behind the host Grand County Red Devils, North Summit, and North Sevier.
Jones led the team in seventh overall with his 90-stroke performance. Senior Noah Olsen was second on the team, tied for 14th overall with a 102. Senior Baylor Nielson hit a 118 to take 26th and senior Kavan Harris rounded out the top four with his 124 in 29th.
On August 20 the Broncos traveled to Sterling, UT to play the Palisade Golf Course with Gunnison Valley hosting. The team shot a 421, again finishing in fourth place in the six-team event.
This time Noah Olsen led the team, sliding past Nash Jones with a 98-stroke round. Jones shot 99 and the teammates took 11th and 12th overall, respectively.
Senior Liam Lacy weighed in with a round of 110, good enough for 19th overall. And Baylor Nielson tied for 20th with his round of 114.
San Juan took third place as a team when they hosted their own Region 15 event at the Hideout Golf Course in Monticello on August 27, shooting a solid 406.
Jones and Olsen tied each other with rounds of 92, which placed them both in sixth place overall. It was a career-best score for Olsen.
Senior Teagen Harris shot his best round of the season with a 109, tying for 17th overall. And Liam Lacy hit 113 to tie for 20th.
On September 3 the Broncos played the Roosevelt Golf Course with the Duchesne Eagles hosting. They mustered a 397-stroke team score to once again finish third.
Jones led the team in 11th overall with a 95-stroke day. Olsen shot a 98 to finish 13th, Lacy carded a 101 to take 14th, and Nielson hit 103 to tie for 17th overall.
In their most recent match this past Wednesday, September 11 San Juan improved their season-opening team score by 38 strokes. They shot a season-best round of 396 to finish third at a Region 15 match at the Carbon Country Club in Price.
Nash Jones shot a career-best 87 to pace the team in ninth overall. Noah Olsen took 14th with his round of 95. Teagen Harris carded a 106 to finish 20th and Liam Lacy was 22nd overall with his round of 108.
Through the first five rounds of the year Nash Jones leads the team with a 90-stroke average. Noah Olsen is second with an average of 94 strokes. Baylor Nielson is next in line with his 108-stroke average.
Liam Lacy is right behind in fourth with a 108.7-stroke average. Teagan Harris is fifth on the team, averaging 118 strokes per round. Kavan Harris has a 125-stroke average in sixth.
Senior Lander Hart is averaging 124 strokes, good enough for seventh on the team. Freshman Ryan Shumway is shooting a 127 average in eighth, and junior Lachlan Lacy is ninth on the team with his 129-stroke average.
The Broncos are eying a long road trip this week. They’ll play the Round Valley Golf Course in Morgan, UT with North Summit hosting. Next Monday, September 24 North Sevier will host a region match at the Cove View Golf Course in Richfield, UT.
The Region 15 Championship is set for Monday, September 30 at the Millsite Golf Course in Ferron, UT. And the 2024 2A Utah Golf State Championship is October 8-9 at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Cedar City.
