Head Coach Sidiah Parker: “Summer Atene is a sophomore at Monument Valley High School at the 115-pound weight class. She is a second-year wrestler who placed third at State her freshman year at the 110lb weight class. Summer started out the season strong by placing first at the Veterans Memorial Invitational in Window Rock, AZ. Although she had a rough patch at Divisionals this year and came in at fifth place, she was able to bounce back at State.
“At State, Summer pinned both of her opponents and made it to the Championship match where she lost by fall and placed second. Summer is a hard worker on and off the mat. She is very dedicated to her wrestling career and academics. She is very scrappy and can scramble out of any position. She is also a very technical athlete who is competitive and will push the other wrestlers to their limits.
“Summer also participates in cross country and track during the offseason. I am very excited to see what the future holds for her. She is only going to get better, as she is still young, learning, and growing.”
