Head Coach Art Adair: “Khatira is one of those athletes every coach dreams of having in their program. From the very first day she stepped into the wrestling room, she has worked hard and embraced the challenge. She was pinned in her very first match and you could immediately tell she hated the feeling of losing. From that moment on, she was determined to improve and never feel that way again.
“Over the past two seasons, Khatira has compiled an impressive record of 48-6, losing to only five different opponents during that time. Her success comes from her drive to improve and her desire to be the best at her craft. Khatira doesn’t just work hard during practice. She puts in extra time after practice, on weekends, and throughout the week in the weight room. She does all of this while also training year-round for softball. Her dedication to both sports shows her work ethic and commitment to excellence.
“Khatira has also found success thanks to the support of her family, who continually encourage and push one another to be their best. Beyond athletics, Khatira is a great student and a strong leader for our team. She was selected as an All-Star participant and finished the season ranked #6 in the state at her weight. Khatira has helped set the standard for San Juan Girls Wrestling and what it means to work hard and lead by example. Next season, she will continue her academic and athletic career at Southeastern Community College in Iowa, where she has committed to wrestle and play softball.
“Our team will truly miss Khatira’s leadership, commitment, and personality next season, but we are incredibly proud of everything she has accomplished and excited to see what she will achieve in the future.”
