The golf season is in full swing at the Hideout Golf Club in Monticello. Since its opening in 2002, the Hideout has been ranked among the nation’s best public golf courses, including being ranked No. 1 in Utah for many years.
Over and over again, golfers returning to Monticello from all over the country call the Hideout their most favorite golf course.
The Hideout has already hosted six fundraising tournaments this season for various charities and will host five more through September.
Among the benefactors have been the Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department, the San Juan and Monticello high school golf programs, the scholarship program for San Juan Health and Blue Mountain Hospital, and the Monticello Rotary, which serves several local charities.
The golf course has also hosted two junior clinics this summer with more than 80 kids from Monticello, Dove Creek, and Blanding participating.
The three-day clinics give the future golfers a chance to learn about the game of golf, the golf swing and the rules of golf. Kids as young as five-years-old get their first experience with the game. The final clinic of the season is set for August 5 to 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This Friday, July 19 the first ever Night Out at the Hideout night golf event will commence as part of the Monticello Pioneer Day Celebration. Golfers will play nine holes in the daylight and nine more in the dark with prizes for the top teams and a raffle event.
On Saturday, July 20 the third-annual long drive contest will take place with divisions for men, women, and juniors. In the 2023 event several golfers launched the golf ball over 320 yards. There will be morning and afternoon sessions at the Hideout driving range.
The annual Hideout Shootout and Hideout Amateur hit the golf course Friday and Saturday, July 26-27.
The popular Hideout Amateur has been sold out for over two weeks while the best-ball shootout still has openings. Moab’s Wyatt Toney won last year’s 36-hole event.
