Trial dates set in 2023 Ucolo murder case

A four-day jury trial is schedule in June for Sage Jennings Daves, age 22 of Dove Creek, CO.
Seventh District Judge Don M. Torgerson bound over Daves for trial after a January 16 preliminary hearing.
Daves is charged with first degree felony murder in the August 27, 2023 death of San Juan County resident Lemuel Prion.
Prion, age 61, was shot multiple times during an altercation with Daves at a property in Ucolo.
While Daves claims the act was in self-defense, prosecutors are pursuing criminal charges against Daves in the death of Prion.
Prosecutors initially considered capital murder charges against Daves, but he is currently charged with first degree felony murder, in addition to three misdemeanor charges.
Daves continues to be held in the San Juan County jail without bail.
In addition to the jury trial, a justification hearing is scheduled in May.
