While it was cool for spectators, the weather was perfect for runners, who begin at Newspaper Rock and finish near the Dugout Ranch at the mouth of Indian Creek Canyon.
The most seasoned racers this year were 75-year-old John Whitcomb of Pennsylvania and Margaret Garcia of La Sal.
Trent Schafer has run the race all six years.
The Newspapers Rock 10K is sponsored by the San Juan Record. It takes place each year on the second Saturday of October.
The race went off without a hitch, despite several unexpected circumstances. It would not have been possible without the work of many workers and volunteers, including Scott Burton, Anna Adair, Jill Slack, Scott and Melissa Shakespeare, Andrea Montgomery, Chris Adair, Dawn Torres, Sister Peterson, Sister Ward, Brian Boyd, the MHS Cross Country team, City of Monticello, San Juan County, Dugout Ranch, UDOT and many, many more.
