Ted H. Nielson

January 23, 1922 ~ March 20, 2009

Ted H. Nielson, 87, passed away peacefully in Logan UT on March 20, 2009, surrounded by family members. Ted was born January 23, 1922, the fifth of eight children to Joseph Wiley Nielson and Deloa Hansen Nielson at Lockerby, San Juan County, UT.

He grew up in southern Utah, helping on the farm. His family moved to Moab for the kids to go to high school. After graduating, he and a friend worked in a ammunition plant in Nevada. They volunteered for military duty in 1942. He served in the infantry, fighting with the 5th Army in North Africa and Italy until released in 1943. After the war, he farmed east of Monticello. He met and married Erma Andersen of Moab on January 15, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Ted was an active member in the LDS Church, holding many positions, such as counselor in branch presidency, scout master and many others.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping with sons, grandsons, and friends. He also spent time around the campfire with loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, sons and daughters: Ted R. “Grizz” Nielson; Susan (Allen) Law; Karen (Paul Chaplinsky); Becky (Gordon) Clawson; Casey (Beth) Nielson; Tamra (David) Fuller; 22 Grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Stanley (Dorlyn) and Clay (Elaine); sister Desie Oviatt; and sister-in-law Irene Nielson. He is preceded in death by son David Clyde Nielson, his parents, two brothers, two sisters, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services were March 25 in Smithfield UT. Interment in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
