Sandra Brown Skouson August 10, 1939 ~ March 1, 2025

Sandra Brown Skouson died March 1, 2025, 15 years plus one day after her beloved husband Garth.
She was born August 10, 1939 in St. Anthony, ID, the oldest of seven children born to George Smith Brown, a mechanic and farmer, and Ruth Ricks Brown, a nurse.
Sandra was a farm girl, growing up in various houses in and around Parker, ID, living the life of a busy farmgirl with her younger siblings.
She graduated from Ricks College and Brigham Young University, then went on a mission to a divided Berlin. She went to bed one night, and the wall was there the next morning. This front row seat to history colored the rest of her life.
Sandra eventually became a teacher at Ricks College, where she was set up on a blind date with an Air Force pilot on leave. She would marry this dashing pilot, Garth Whipple Skouson, on August 27, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
The Air Force lifestyle let them raise their children all around the United States and even in Japan. Their nine children were born in California, Massachusetts, Japan, Maryland, Virginia, Arizona, and finally Utah.
While Garth was studying at BYU, Sandra wrote scripts for the university. Several were produced and one was used as the MTC training video for years.
In 1983, after decades of moving around, they finally settled down in Monticello, UT.
In Monticello, Sandra finished raising her children and really settled into her lifelong habit of cultivating her own talents and those of others. She wrote a prodigious amount of poetry, taught piano and writing, and played flute in Handel’s Messiah. She spent years in the Utah State PTA.
For over a quarter century she looked forward to her daily morning walks with her “walking partners.” She did this for as long as she was able, and these women looked after each other.
She served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings: primary, young women’s program, Relief Society, varied music-related callings, and she worked in the office of the Monticello Temple for more than 25 years.
Of all her talents and accomplishments she was proudest of being a mother and grandmother. She is survived in life by her nine children: Rae (Richard) Agren, Gary (Darlene) Skouson, Mark (Laura) Skouson, Eric (Amy) Skouson, Ruth Mattox, Peter (Deborah) Skouson, George (Jill) Skouson, Martha (Brian) Taylor, and Elinor (Robert) Robinson; 39 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two brothers.
Sandra’s family would like to express our deep gratitude to the people of Monticello for your loving care of our mother. Thank you, not only for looking out for her physical needs over the years, but also for making her feel such an important part of the community. She truly felt your love and so did we.
