Norma Louise Dean Johnston

February 22, 1927 ~ February 8, 2010

Norma Louise Dean Johnston, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all, passed away on February 8, 2010 peacefully in her sleep while at her home in Monticello, UT.

Born February 22, 1927 in American Fork, UT to Oscar James Dean and Anna Louise Simms, she was the youngest of ten children. Norma married George Watkins on May 15, 1946. He later passed away following an automobile accident.

Norma married Charles Roscoe Johnston on April 14, 1950 in Las Vegas, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 28, 1964 and their seven children were sealed to them on that day for time and eternity.

They moved their family to Monticello in 1970. At that time Norma went to work for San Juan School District as a cook at Monticello High School, and continued there for 19 years until her retirement.

A strong believer in the importance of family, Norma deeply loved each and every member of her’s. She had a wonderful way of making every person feel as if they were her favorite.

She was a seamstress, cook, quilter, crotchetier, scrapbooker, avid reader, journal writer, family historian, and gardener. Norma believed in hard work and never said no to anyone. She loved drives on the mountain, country music, the County Fair, and the Utah Jazz. She had a wonderful sense of humor and made (or found) friends everywhere she went.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Norma served diligently in many callings, but especially loved her time in Nursery, Scouting and the Family History Library.

Norma loved the Lord and had a deep testimony of the gospel. She had a giving spirit and a great appreciation for everything in her life. She believed in God’s promise of heaven and eternal life.

Norma is survived by her seven children, Craig (Brandi), Carol (Kent) McLaughlin, Chris (Kent) Adair, Cindy (Mark) Leavitt, Cory (Rose), Colleen (Earl) Randall, and Clay (Debi); 33 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Dorothy Dean, brother Darrell Dean, and sister Bernice Beckstead.

Preceded in death by her husband, Charles, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held on February 15, 2010 at the Monticello Utah LDS Stake Center.
