Merilyn Lisenby

July 1, 1934 ~ May 23, 2009

Merilyn Lisenby passed away in the house she was born in on May 23, 2009.

She was born Merilyn Louene Palmer on July 1, 1934. The daughter of J. Ward and Ada (Magnuson) Palmer, she grew up on the Lazy 2 Ranch, located on Hurrah Ridge.

She attended school in Monticello, UT.

When Merilyn was 16, she was named Rodeo Queen at the San Juan County Rodeo, impressing the local judges with her riding skills.

Upon graduation from Monticello High School she attended college at Fort Lewis, Alaska – Fairbanks, University of Wyoming and Casper College.

At the University of Wyoming, she made the Presidents List for academic excellence and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education.

Merilyn taught second grade in Green River, WY when she married Homer Lisenby.

They lived in many towns in Wyoming before settling in Laramie, where she was a member of the PTA, serving as president for several years.

Merilyn returned to the ranch house on Hurrah Ridge to take care of her elderly parents and remained on the ranch she loved after their passing.

A student of history, Merilyn helped her brother, Jay, research and write many articles on San Juan County and Monticello. Many of these stories were published in the Blue Mountain Shadows.

She is survived by son Robert, brother Jay, sister-in-law Betty, nieces Pat and Ellen, nephews OJ & Dwayne and special cousins Nancy and Tom.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Jerry.
